The Seattle Seahawks are going back to the Super Bowl! (For the newcomers, I'm the sideline reporter for the Seahawks.)
Even if I wasn't headed to the Super Bowl I'd still be talking about it because it includes so many sports adjacent topics like the food, commercials and entertainment. It's the perfect sporting event to connect with just about everyone.
If football, food or commercials aren't your thing there are a few other topics making news that work perfectly in small talk.
NFL
The Super Bowl matchup is set. The Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots will play in Super Bowl 60. It's the Seahawks fourth Super Bowl appearance in franchise history and the 12th appearance for the Patriots. It's also a rematch of Super Bowl 49, a game New England won thanks to an interception at the goal line with 20 seconds left in the game.
NCAA
The college football playoff field will not expand next season. It will stay at 12 teams. There was discussion on expanding to either 16 or 24 teams.
College Hoops
We're about halfway through the college basketball season and the top-ranked men's and women's teams are unbeaten. The No. 1 UConn women are 21-0 heading into the week. On the men's side, No. 1 Arizona is 20-0.
If you've already got an eye toward March Madness, Selection Sunday is March 15th.
Australian Open
Novak Djokovic made history Saturday when he became the only man to record 400 match wins in the majors. His all-time record in major tournaments is 400-55. He's won 24 major titles and had the most success at the Australian Open.
PGA
Scottie Scheffler notched his 20th PGA Tour win. He's the third player in PGA history to rack up 20 Tour victories and four major championships before the age of 30.
