Research has shown that spending just five minutes thinking about conversation topics makes small talk more productive and enjoyable. (I could have told you that, and have in various ways, but it always helps to be backed by research.)
It should take less than five minutes to read through this quick list of sports topics and questions you can use to prepare for conversations this week.
NFL
Week 6 of the NFL season is almost finished (after the Monday night game that is) and Kansas City, Minnesota and San Francisco are still unbeaten. The Tennessee Titans got their first win of the season Sunday and the LA Chargers and Miami Dolphins have yet to record a win. Meanwhile the LA Rams, the team favored by many pundits to win the Super Bowl dropped to 2-4 this season.

NCAA
For a second straight week the top-ranked team in college football lost to an unranked opponent. Georgia was stunned by Auburn a week after moving into the No. 1 spot. It was a chaotic day across with the board with five of Top 10 teams losing.

MLB
The Milwaukee Brewers await the winner of the Cleveland Guardians and Tampa Bay Rays for the World Series matchup. The Rays lead series 3-2. Sunday was originally scheduled as a travel day, but weather in Cleveland cause a postponement Friday that eliminated the day off forcing the teams to potentially play four straight days (if a Game 7 is needed.) The World Series starts Friday

WNBA
Golden State won Game 1 of the WNBA Finals against Atlanta. The leagues best defense held the Dream to just 8 points in the fourth quarter. Game 2 of the best-of-seven series is Monday.

NBA
The NBA season starts Tuesday. The New York Knicks are the defending champions. They open the season by hosting LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers. The San Antonio Spurs, the team that lost to New York in the Finals last season, and the Oklahoma City Thunder are favored to win this season.
