Teamwork is Easy to Fake
Jul 16, 2026On the first day of Seahawks Training Camp next week I'll be handed a roster, which is helpful for identifying new players and guys who switched jersey numbers in the off season.
The list of names is not helpful for predicting the success of the team. Past performance isn't an indicator of potential success either. Individual talent doesn't necessarily come into play as much as you think either because football relies on teamwork.
It seems like a no-duh statement, but the concept of teamwork is fairly easy to fake. You can be on a roster. You can be on the field together. You can be working toward the same goal and want the same outcome. You can be doing the thing on the surface, but the most successful teams go deeper. It's not just about actions, it's the connection and the relationships between teammates that lead to the best results.
The moments that produce those connections can't be forced but they can be cultivated. For the 2025 Super Bowl Champion Seahawks, they were cultivated in shadow boxing competitions. The moments of levity and fun could have easily been misunderstood and viewed as a waste of time. They were anything but.
Real teamwork isn't just showing up and doing the job, it's the relationships underneath. Those won't happen by accident, make sure you schedule some fun.
It's one of the things I talked about in a session I offered earlier this year that included my observations on what set the 2025 Seahawks apart. You can watch the full training session here [WATCH SESSION]
