Sports Conversation Starters for Your Week

I'm pretty sure I said "I don't know what I'm doing" at least half a dozen times over the holiday weekend. It wasn't an exaggeration, I was truly doing something new and wanted to level set for the people around me. 

While I felt a little silly, it also felt better to tell the truth than to pretend and fake my way through the situations. And you know what? Everyone was incredibly gracious and helpful. They didn't seem to mind and were quick to help. I think that reminder is important for so many things, including our conversations. We don't need to pretend we know what to say or that we've watched the same shows or games everyone else said they did over the weekend.

Wimbledon

Novack Djokovic earned a record-setting 106th match win at Wimbledon, passing Roger Federer for the most all-time singles match wins at the venue. On the women's side, Naomi Osaka took down the top-ranked woman in the world, Aryna Sabalenka. Meanwhile Coco Gauff because the youngest American woman to reach the quarterfinals of each grand slam since Serena Williams in 2001.

World Cup

The US can continue their run in the World Cup by defeating Belgium Monday. The US team got a boost Sunday when the red card suspension against striker Folarin Balogun was lifted.

 MLB 

The All-Star game rosters were unveiled Saturday. The LA Dodgers are sending four starters to the Midsummer Classic including Shohei Ohtani who received the most votes of any all-star selection. The Dodgers, Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies are all sending a total of five players to the game, the most of any teams. The All-Star game takes place July 14 in Philadelphia.

Tour de France

The Tour de France is underway. The race started in Barcelona and ends in Paris July 26 in Paris. Tadej Pogacar is the overwhelming favorite to win. He's already captured four yellow jerseys, and another win would tie him for the most wins ever.
