Sports Conversation Starters for Your Week
Oct 26, 2026
Even though it's a Monday, it could be the best day of the year for sports fans. That's because the Sports Equinox has arrived.
All four of the major North American professional sports leagues - NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL all have games scheduled today. Game 5 of the WNBA Finals also takes place tonight, so there are plenty of options when contemplating sports talk this week (or at least for today.)
Simply asking which sport you prefer watching on a day like today is enough to get the conversation going. The talking points below can help them continue.
NFL
The Pittsburgh Steelers topped the New Orleans Saints in the first NFL game played in France. Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw one touchdown pass to move into third on the NFL's all-time list with 540. Only Tom Brady and Drew Brees have thrown more touchdowns in NFL history. The game is one of nine international contests for the NFL this season.
Talk Sporty Convo Starter:
- As a fan, what are the benefits - if any - to having a game that starts earlier than all the other games on the Sunday schedule?
NCAA
There are just three unbeaten teams remaining across Division I football - Miami, UCLA and Utah. It's the first time since 2003 there have been just three ranked unbeaten teams before Halloween.
Talk Sporty Convo Starter:
- Do you like the chaos of this season or is it impacting your enjoyment of the sport?
- What's your prediction for how the records will affect the 12-team playoff bracket?
MLB
In the World Series the Milwaukee Brewers hold a 2-0 lead against the Tampa Bay Rays thanks to their seventh comeback win of the postseason on Saturday night. Only 10 teams in MLB history have overcome an 0-2 deficit to win the World Series. Game 3 is Monday in Tampa.
Talk Sporty Convo Starter:
- Do you think Milwaukee's exceptional bullpen or Tampa's sloppy fielding have played a bigger role in the outcome of the first two games of the series?
WNBA
In the WNBA Finals, Golden State bounced back to even the series against Atlanta with a win Saturday night. After a 26 point loss in the previous game, the Valkyries altered their starting lineup for the first time in the postseason.
Talk Sporty Convo Starter:
- Given Golden State's success with a shorter rotation, going to fewer players off the bench, do you anticipate them sticking with that strategy in Game 5 on Monday?
