Sports Conversation Starters for Your Workweek
Feb 15, 2026
What a couple weeks it's been! I was, in fact, celebrating a Seahawks Super Bowl win into the early hours last Monday morning and I spent the entire week celebrating the victory and talking about the experience.
And you know what? No one asked me about the game itself. We talked about the vibe on the field, the celebration in the locker room, the post-game party entertainment (Ludacris and T-Pain), the number of fans in Santa Clara and the 12s that packed the parade route on Wednesday.
There are two big takeaways from those encounters: Sports fans don't just talk about outcomes and the Seahawks are going to be part of a lot of sports conversations throughout the year. Which means you might want to think outside the box scores and dive into three observations from the Seahawks this season that could help your team become more connected in 2026. I wrote about it last week. [Read it here.]
Of course, there's more to talk about than the Seahawks (and I promise next week there won't even be a mention of them) continue reading for your list of sports topics making headlines - and great small talk topics - this week
NFL
A note for the football fans, the next big dates on the NFL calendar include the Scouting Combine at the end of the month, free agency starting March 11 and the NFL Draft taking place April 23.
MLB
Spring Training is underway. Pitchers and catchers reported last week. Full squad workouts begin Monday for most teams. Spring Training games start Friday.
NBA
The NBA All-Star festivities took place over the weekend. The game itself is rarely the most talked about event so we'll give you these nuggets...Damian Lillard won the 3-point shooting contest which is noteworthy because he hasn't played in a game all season due to an Achilles injury. Miami's Keshad Johnson won the Slam Dunk contest.
Also worth noting, LeBron James will not be part of the All-NBA voting at the end of the season because he's missed too many games with injuries. It will snap a streak of 21 straight All-NBA seasons.
College Hoops
Michigan is poised to take over the top spot in the men's college basketball rankings following two wins this week and two losses by previous No. 1 Arizona. On the women's side, top-ranked UConn continues their tear through the season and are a perfect 27-0 heading into the week.
Daytona 500
Tyler Reddick won the Daytona 500 Sunday after leading for just one lap. He snapped a 38-race losing streak with the victory. The Daytona 500 marks the start of the NASCAR season.
Olympics
There's one week of Olympic competition remaining. There are too many storylines to cover here. Norway leads the total medal count heading into the week followed by Italy and the United States.
