Sports Conversation Starters for Your Workweek
Nov 23, 2025
Harvard research shows that a little preparation for conversations makes them less stressful. (I've said the same thing for years, but now there's research to prove it.) You might assume that conversations take care of themselves during holiday gatherings, but it doesn't hurt to have a few small talk topics at the ready. These sports headlines could do the trick.
NFL
Thanksgiving Day football might just be background noise during your holiday gatherings, but if you're tracking the action here are the matchups:
Green Bay plays at Detroit
Kansas City plays in Dallas
Cincinnati plays Baltimore
And if that's not enough football during the week, there's a Black Friday game between Chicago and Philadelphia.
NCAA
It's rivalry week in college football. Two of the biggest matchups feature Top 25 teams. No. 1 Ohio State plays at No. 18 Michigan and No. 3 Texas A&M plays at No. 17 Texas. Ohio State and Texas A&M are still unbeaten this season.
NBA
LeBron James made his season debut last week for the Lakers and marked the start of his record-setting 23rd NBA season. He has not talked about retirement, but his friend and LA Clippers guard Chris Paul announced he will be retiring after this season after 21 years in the league.
NWSL
Gotham FC defeated the Washington Spirit to win the NWSL Championship. It's their second title in three seasons.
