Sports Conversation Starters for Your Workweek
Mar 29, 2026
You know the most important thing about MLB Opening Day last week? The season started.
It didn't matter if teams, players or mangers felt like they were 100% prepared, if they would have liked a little more time or if they weren't ready to start the season - the season started.
Everyone knows it takes a while to get into "mid-season form" and you'll never get there if you don't have a starting point to work from.
It doesn't matter if we're talking about the baseball season, a new product you're creating, a job you're going after or the conversations you're having this week. Just get started. Learn from the experience and make adjustments off the information you gather.
Speaking of, all you have to do is keep reading for information about sports topics making headlines this week.
MLB
The Toronto Blue Jays set a major league record with 50 strikeouts over a 3-game series to start the season against the A's. The 50 strikeouts in a 3-game series also tied a franchise record.
College Hoops
The UConn Women's basketball team reached the Final Four - which is no surprise since they were the No. 1 overall seed and are the heavy favorite to win the tournament - but it is worth putting into context the success of the program and head coach Geno Auriemma. UConn will be making its 17th Final Four appearance in the last 18 tournaments.
On the men's side the UConn men knocked off the No. 1 overall seeded Duke. Michigan and Arizona are the two remaining No. 1 seeds. They'll play each other Saturday.
PGA
Gary Woodlawn won the Houston Open. It was his first PGA Tour win since 2019. The tournament is one of the final tune up before The Masters next week.
NHL
With 8 games left the regular season the Vegas Golden Knights fired their head coach hoping to spark a playoff run. The NHL playoffs begin April 18.
